Customer Non-service

I really wish that obnoxious, bitter people wouldn't be allowed to man customer service phones. I just paid a revised medical bill and asked the woman (who I'd gotten into a massive fight with about the same bill last week) if I could now disregard the earlier - much higher - bill.

Her: I can't tell you that.

Me: What do you mean? It's been paid now, so I can throw out this other one since it no longer applies, right?

Her: Well, I can't tell you what to do with your bills, ma'm.

Me: I just need to know if I can ignore this bill and throw out anything that may arrive in the next week in case you sent out another notification beforehand.

Her: Well, I can't tell you to throw out your bills. Some people like to keep them for their records.

Me: Okay, I'm just trying to confirm that my entire balance has been paid and that I can disregard this earlier incorrect bill and any others that might already be in the mail.

*silence*

Me: I mean, there's nothing else I need to do, right? Like if I get another bill that was sent out before today.

*silence*

Me: All right, whatever, thanks.

Her: Have a nice day.

The Cabin in the Woods

An intentionally generic title for one of the most creative and brilliantly non-generic films of the genre, Joss Whedon's standout supernatural horror will satisfy the nostalgic yearnings of anyone who misses the "Jossverse," as well as drawing in those who have yet to discover it.

An all out romp through crazyland, The Cabin in the Woods is, in true Joss fashion, both disturbing and humorous in equal measure. Those familiar with Whedon's work will appreciate the usual ensemble of quirky, atypical characters that defy stereotypes, accompanied by the clever, snarky banter that we've all come to expect. Former fans of Angel will particularly enjoy the obvious Wolfram and Hart feel of the company behind the curtain, whose employees alternate between being ultra professional about the demons they worship to hilariously callous about their macabre jobs.

I went into this film knowing nothing about it and that's probably the best approach. Trying to sum up the sheer imagination packed into this work of horrifying art simply wouldn't do it justice. Rest assured, it's a unique experience that will likely have you glued to your seat and entertained the whole way through. As can often be said about Joss's work, there's really nothing else like it out there. And, as a good friend of mine so eloquently put it, the last twenty minutes are simply "a clusterfuck of awesome that is not to be missed." So do yourself a favor and do not skip this one.

Explanation of Pisces

I don't believe in astrology but...yep.

"Pisces are the most idealistic of the signs of the zodiac. They are selfless and extremely devoted to those who matter to them most. Their caring is unconditional. These people express themselves through areas such as the arts. Pisces are notorious for having many alter egos which can surface at any moment. They can inflict a lot of pain in certain situations, as well as receive it, and they have a talent for 'bending' the truth. Being extremely imaginative people, this sometimes gets the best of them. Reality can become easily clouded with Pisces. Traits: artistic, adaptable, sensitive, thoughtful, impractical, spiteful and sometimes immoral."

Cat Naps

Beautiful real-world portrayal of my favorite classic comic strip characters, Calvin and Hobbes, illustrated by Isaiah Stephens.

Six Months and Counting

Last Monday, class was running into open mat as usual. Christian had me jump in to drill escapes from mount with The Kid and even though I only caught the last 10 minutes, I was able to work up a sweat. When class ended, Brickling came over and seemed oddly determined to roll with me. I'm not sure why...maybe because I finally gave him a nickname here. At any rate, roll we did, for a damn long time. I'm not sure how much he gets out of it though, since he's insanely strong for such a short guy and has a wrestling background. He just kept tapping me out while I swore incessantly, but we had a good time.
